About

Since a young age, growing up in rural Shropshire I’ve felt most at home in the English and French countryside where my grandparents lived. Undoubtedly this has led to an admiration for the natural environment and a growing concern over the future of not just a national heritage but a global ecosystem which is the foundation of all life.

At Sixth form I focused on the creative subjects, namely Art, Media, Drama and decided to widen my understanding of the issues I wanted to explore by studying BSc Environmental Science at Plymouth University. This academic experience combined with invaluable work experience in the Jodrell Laboratory at Kew Gardens as the research for my honours project, has led to an appreciation for the complexities of environmental and scientific challenges. Additionally this has fueled an ambition to find ways of successfully communicating these issues, and debating potential mitigators with the hope and belief that education is the fundemental neccesity for long term global sustainability.

Personal

Living in a semi-detached rural house for much of my childhood I was banned from playing the saxophone indoors, and humbly made to create noise at the bottom of the garden. The fresh air and creativity is something that has always stuck with me and made me ponder and appreciate the things I value most in life. Sports was another avenue for striving for achievement and being a teamplayer. When I started football I played in the local boys team, girls football was still an embryo of sporting development in the UK. Being part of that change I felt proud and inspired, and again I can relate that experience to my future ambitions, to be part of a change in the way we live and use our resources.
Sport has also pushed me to my limit, and in 2008 a sailing accident during a race reinstated the importance of striving for what you want and never taking anything for granted. Scientists have stated that the current state of the world and the potential consequences will not allow for fresh perspectives and second chances. It goes without saying that much of the global population is already fighting for survival in many ways, and the challenges of everyday life occupy the minds of the rest of us. But I hope means and ways will be found before these elvusive climatic and resource tipping points occur, to secure safety and equality.

With a down to earth attitude, passion for life and laughter and a relentless ambitious nature I hope I can contribute to positive environmental and humanitarian action.
